Europe is being gripped by the biggest refugee crises since the Second World War. The massive exodus of refugees has been caused by the political upheaval in the Middle East, Africa and South East Asia.

There are now record numbers of people being displaced.

One third of those fleeing are from Syria. Within Syria over 12 million people have been uprooted due to its downward spiral into civil war over the past four years. Whilst most of the refugees have been absorbed into neighbouring Arab countries, many have risked their lives on what is now known as the 'worlds most dangerous crossing' - the Mediterranean Sea.

Alongside Syrians, those abandoning their homes in great numbers for safety due to persecution and conflict are refugees from South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hundreds of thousands of people have fled to Europe over the past year. Europe's response has been somewhat disjointed, focussing more on securing its borders than protecting the rights of migrants and refugees. With record numbers of people being forced to relocate, the safe crossings and resettlement of refugees has been significantly left to volunteers, charities and some international groups like the Red Cross and the UNCHR with some national exceptions such as Germany, Serbia and Greece. With the crises showing very little signs of improving and the EU's inability to forge consensus, the concern is that the suffering and death toll will only continue to rise.

MerseyAid is committed to providing support to refugees crossing Europe displaced from their homes due to conflict and/or persecution and to enabling people within Merseyside who have arrived, often with nothing, with assistance to integrate into their community.

MerseyAid is a grass roots group, set out to help those in need without the hindrance of red tape, government policies and procedures. Our aim is to provide aid at the point of need, when it is needed.

We are looking for local people within the Merseyside area to help support us by donating the following:-

  • Clothes
  • New Underware
  • Shoes
  • Bags
  • Camping equipment
  • Food
  • Toilteries
  • Blankets/Quilts

We are working with local clothing recycling businesses, so please donate all your un-wanted clothes/bag and shoes, those which we can not donate to refugees will be sold for cash which will help us to raise much needed funds.

MerseyAid is committed to an open and transparent banking, so all our members can see how we spend your valuable donations and hard earned fund raising monies.
